Welcome to Mitchell Fire and Rescue commonly known as the Mitchell Fire Department. The Fire Department was established in Mitchell IL in 1945 when members built its first Fire Station on what is now known as Historic Route 66. The building and labor was supplied by members of the fire department.  In December of 1949 an election for a fire district was held and past. The first three trustees were All Paul, Joseph Troeckler and George Bugle. Click HERE for rest of story.

Mitchell FD consists of an all Volunteer membership who answers emergency calls relayed from Madison County 911 Dispatch, Edwardsville Police as well as Pontoon Beach Police Department. The department has 2 fire houses and a total of 8 response vehicles.  Mitchell Fire Department responds to about 60 to 70 calls a month.  Who are these Firefighters? click HERE

Station 2 at Maryville and Old Alton Rd which houses 3 of the response vehicles  was built by the district to better serve the community due to the Rail Road tracks often being used by trains. It also serves as a small sub-station for Madison County Sheriffs department. Mitchell Station 2 will host the annual Fire Prevention Week  in October.

Eddie Lee is currently the Chief, his son Joe Lee is Assistant Chief, Eddie started in 1974 as a Firefighter and achieved status of Chief in 1989.

Since the inception of the department there has always been a ladies auxiliary department that helps tremendously with operations and funding. They are a vital part of the organization.
